Howdy,
my name is Rikk Price. I am 34 years old and work in the IT field
at The Greater Murray Clinical School in Wagga Wagga, Australia.
The Greater Murray Clinical School is a division of the University
of New South Wales and was created to train doctors in rural and
regional areas.
In the past
doctors were only ever trained in large cities and tended to stay
in the cities after graduating. The Clinical School will change
that with studies indicating that 80% of the doctors will stay in
the region they are trained in, balancing the shortage of doctors
rural Australia is facing.
I am a current
member of AIM , the Australian
Institute of Management. AIM hold monthly breakfast meetings
in Albury, and normally have a guest speaker who talks about their
area of expertise. It is a good opportunity to network and build
up industry contacts. They also have a professional development
program that ensures that one maintains and regularly updates their
management skills, staying abreast of the latest developments in
management.
I also hold
membership at the AMI, the Australian
Marketing Institute. They have similar professional development
programs to AIM but are not quite as active in regional areas as
the Institute of Management are. They do however produce a high
quality magazine that allows members to stay abreast of the latest
developments in marketing.
Some of my
hobbies include computers and abseiling, although computers tend
to consume most of my time. My other passion is motorcycles.
I own a BMW
K100RS, which is a bit of a change from the Honda CM250 I owned
for the five years prior.
My other hobby,
abseiling started during a beginners abseiling course through the
local continuing education centre. At the time it looked easy. The
difference lies when it is your turn to stand on the edge of the
cliff and drop. Ultimately I worked my way up to running down the
cliff face first. Although it is daunting to see how far down it
is and then traverse it within a matter of seconds, then manage
to still stop before the bottom is reached.
That about
sums up everything.
